NOW HEAR THIS……………
It’s a new year and the boating season is about to start up in full swing. Are you and your boat ready for the boating season? Most boaters renew their boat license, boat and trailer registration and even maybe some insurance. Then you wash the boat, tune up the engine, check the trailer and load it up to go.
It’s a good idea to go over all your boat’s safety gear to see if it’s in working order and
you have everything on board that you may need in an EMERGENCY. You can do this yourself or, better yet, you can have the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary do it for you.
The “VSC” or Vessel Safety Check is performed by trained Auxiliary Examiners. The examination is free and there are no penalties for boats that do not pass. If you do not pass the examination, you will be given a list of what you need to do to pass. When and if you make the corrections and are re-examined, you will be issued a 2003 VSC decal.
The VSC decal will be affixed to the port side of your boat so it can be seen. This decal will let the Rangers, Fish & Game, Marine Police, Coast Guard and other boaters know that you have been examined and have passed. (That means more time fishing and less time being checked out on the water for PFD’s and other safety items)
You can have your boats examined by contacting me via phone or e-mail. I will also be set up at the main boat ramp at Round Valley during the weekends. Look for my VSC signs at Round Valley. There is also a brochure rack located on the back of your Bulletin Board.
NEW THIS YEAR: For every boat that passes its inspection, you will receive one FREE smoke detector. This is only available through Station Sewaren 4-4
I’ll be looking forward to seeing you, and have a happy and safe boating season.
