Comments: Started trolling in the launch cove in 30-45' for browns and'bows, with no luck. Went over by north tower and put down rainbow colored spoons on downriggers and had a 20" laker in 10 minutes. Continued to troll the north shore in 70-90' range at the bottom and got 5 more lakers to 22". It was very windy and you could only control the boat going with the wind, with the Valley showing who was boss with 25 mph winds and 3+ foot waves. When I reached the east end of the Valley, the rangers turned on the lights for everyone to get off. I battled to get back to the ramp, and was the last boater for 2001!

Comments: Fished from 8am, soon after arrival i saw some baitfish being chased close to the shoreline.  I cast a small minnow plug in the vicinity and had a 20" brown take it immediatly.  In the next 4 hours only managed to get 3 more rainbows (one Kamploop) all on the live shiner.  From reading an article on this website, I understand that all Kamloops have RED tags?  Is this true?  I met a guy there the other day and he told me that ANY rainbow tagged is a Kamloop.   Someone please email me and tell me what the real deal is with tag colors.  I really want to know and dont want to keep any Kamloops.  Last week I kept a silver tagged rainbow thinking it was not a Kamloops.  I would have not kept it if it was a Kamloop.  So my question is, do all Kamloops have RED tags only?  Also,  can someone tell me until when does this trout fishing from the shoreline last?  About mid-january?   Thanks for all the help, i really want to know the real deal so i can do my part in conserving!  the kamloops.

Comments: Got up early to find the lights still on from sat.  Water police would not let us or about 20 other boats to enter water till 800 am when the rangers turned the light out.  65 miles to sit on shore and watch the fish role in the cove son threw some metal lures no luck.  Water level is about 6 ft down on the hole lake the gravel ramp soon will not work except 4x4s.  Be carefull  found a trailer licence in mud put up by tag box looked at other trailers nobody missing plate so left there for person. Forgot to copy number down so if you lost one on gravel ramp we left for you.   Moved some of the big rocks that people at put on edge of water so not to break a prop when water comes up suggest you all do this it might be your prop that goes.

Comments: Fished from shore at Ranger Cove from 1030am-130pm.  Brought a dozen live shiners and my plugging rod.  Was told by guy at bait store and a few old timers that i was silly to try and use lures, and that these trout only would take live bait.  Sort of discouraged me, but i hate just DEADSTICKING and sitting in a lawn chair waiting for something to happen.  VERY BORING!!!!!!! I left the old timers there cause i didnt like to be watched.  I went off on my own and fished some of the rocky points jetting out from shore.  No one else there at all. All the action took place in one hour.  1 brown 13" caught on Lucky Craft minnow, 2 rainbows 14"-16" caught on same lure.  1 15" rainbow caught on live shiner. At one time i had a double hit, a bite on my lure and while i was bringing in that fish, i saw my rod in the holder was bent over too.  Quite a bit of fun on light tackle 6lb test fluorcarbon on each rod with a 4lb fluorocarbon leader with the live shiner.  1/4oz egg sinker to get it down with a 18" leader.  Only regret is that i didnt bring my fly rod and cast some streamers out there.  I think i may have had some luck during that mini blitz.  After that one hour (even a little less), all action stopped suddenly. I couldnt believe it.  Maybe these trout are cruising around in tight schools and you just have to wait until they hit your area?  Not sure, but this reservoir is really kick ass for FAT and healthy trout.  I released 2 fish and kept two (non kamloop) rainbows for my Japanese Chef sister in law (visiting from Japan) to cook up for us Japanese style.  I dont usually ever keep fish EVER, but this certainly was a great occasion to do so.  One fish was tagged and the tag returned to NJDFW.  Of course, the 13" brown was released healthy.  Only kept 2 rainbows over 15" and 16".  Very meaty and full of shiners.  Any questions, please email me.  I think another lure that would have worked wonderfully there would be the YOZURI pin minnow on 4lb fluorcarbon.  Great Place to fish, dont be discouraged to try lures if that is what you really prefer to do.  Why not bring some shiners just in case and set up a rod in your stand.  Cant hurt.  What suprised me was that 3 out of the 4 fish were caught on the lure instead of the LIVE BAIT!!!

Comments: Jerked streamers again without a hit while trolling jointed rainbow trout rapalas, which caught 2 browns and 2 lakers on lead core, all 4 colors. Switched to the riggers in 80-105' water, catching the remaining 7 lakers. For the first time in a while, most often the fish I marked, I caught. All fish caught were on the small side, with 2 lakers caught when I pulled the release to change the spoons and hooked followers.
