dodgers and started catching fish... one of these days I'll follow advice and
save the dodgers for the proper seasons.

Date = December 29,2002
Time started fishing = 10 am
Time finished fishing = 2:30 pm
Weather conditions = Breezy and cool, upper 30's-40
Location = drifting from launch cove to east end,trolling back
Fishing method = live bait drifting, D/R trolling
Depth of presentation = bottom, 40'
Water depth = 50-120'
Type of lure = brass moolook wablers, chartreuse Alpina,purple Mich. Stinger
Type of bait = large shiners
Water temperature = 39 degrees
Species = Lake Trout
Size = 16-28"
Total caught = 3
Comments = Started drifting out of launch cove, marking fish in 50' at the
bottom, without a hit. The wind picked up so I threw out a drift sock to slow
the drift, but I did not get the first fish until I had drifted past the north
tower, and that was a 16" tagged Kamloops on a bobber line set at 20',
which I released. In 100' by the orange fence on the north shore, I hooked a
laker which seemed to have some size. I got it to the boat, and weighed it, the
fish was about 28" long and weighed 7lbs, 9 oz. Just when I was about to
lift it into the boat, it jerked off the hook on the digital scale and ripped
the circle hook out of its mouth, taking off to the depths again! The only other
fish I caught was a largemouth bass, that caught in 90' while drifting the
shiners! I had a pole do a quick couple of jerks, which I thought was from a
laker, and so I tried to set the hook. I got a couple of headshakes and started
to reel in, maybe 10 or so cranks, when it seemed like I lost the!
fish. I quickly opened the bail, and let out about 10' of line, hoping for
a re-hook up, which happened. To my surprise, when I got the fish to the boat,
it was a bass. I figured it would have been a smallie, being in that depth, but
it turned out to be a 16" or so largemouth.
Best of wishes to all for the New Year, and great fishing!!!!

Total caught = 3 Browns - 2 Lakers
Comments = Started out flatlining the South shoreline and hooked up with 3
Browns, one of them 16" and very fat. Changed over to downrigging and
managed only to catch a small Laker and the 21" Laker was caught on
leadcore. Thank God for the vhf radio, at least we got to bullshit with Mike P.
out there to break up the down time. All in all they weren't to aggressive that
day. Saw the Eagle again on the North Shore, very neat!!!!

Weather conditions = partly cloudy and windy
Location = launch cove then off north point, then south tower
Fishing method = Drifting shiners then trolling downriggers
Depth of presentation = bottom
Water depth = 50-120'
Type of lure = shiners, silver suttons,charteuse Alpina Diamonds
Type of bait = shiners
Water temperature = 42
Species = Lake Trout
Size = 17-23"
Total caught = 4
Comments = Drifted with the wind from the launch cove to the north shore with
medium shiners(only size available), catching 2 Lakers 20/23" while at the
north point in 70-80'. I continued to drift the shiners into 50-70'across the
north shore without a hookup.I trolled the DR with spoons back to the South
Tower, atching the other 2 17" lakers, both coming on the chatreuse Alpina
Diamonds in 70', just before the beginning of the rocks for the south dam. I
tried stacking lines for the first time at 20-30', pulling small
rapalas(black,silver and firetiger) for browns and 'bows, without a hit, and
going into the wind it was really a trick for me alone to do that for the first
time. I kept the first fish of the day(23") for dinner dinner. It has been
a good 2 months away fron the Valley, and did I miss it.

incredible. Started out flatlining first for Rainbows and Browns, managed to
hook up with 2 Bows and 1 Brown. Missed several others also while flatlining.
Changed over to pulling wire and lead core and the action bumped up a
little.Downrigging was not that active, caught only 3 Lakers on the riggers.Not
to bad all in all for the short time out there. In the end we saw the eagle on
the North Shore, very nice to see. Another great time at the Valley.... To

and the Brown went 16" and was very chunky. All in all wasn't so bad for a
very windy morning. Leadcore caught 2 of the Lakers, very fun on that set up.

Comments = I pushed the boat off the trailer at about 1:30, only problem was
I forgot to attach my lanyard rope to the boat. I watched it drift off the ramp
and stop about 125' out. Hmmm what to do, Sammy and Gary happened to be shore
fishing at the time and sammy offered me one of his rods which I cast out and
was able to hook up and get the boat to shore. Sammy's a class act, he did'nt
snicker once. Gary on the other hand found it more than amusing, and thats all I
have to say about that.
