Water+temperature: 42
Species: Lake Trout
Size: 20-24"
Total+caught: 3
Comments: Started the day drifting large shiners with a drift sock due to the windy conditions, without a bite, from the launch cove almost to the east end. Decided that maybe trolling the Valley was the key to catching a fish, so I trolled back west with downriggers and spoons, along with lead core and stickbaits, jointed rainbow trout, and black and silver rapalas, and Little Rippers in asst colors, and for the next 3 hours I had a nice ride without a fish. By late afternoon, the wind started to die down, so I double anchored in 90' off the north point, and had 3 legal lakers in a little over an hour. Dusk was approaching, so I called it a day. At least I was not let down by the fishing at the Valley.

Comments: Started drifting early in the launch cove before helping with the Kamloops stocking, without a hit. Helped with the stocking, then I anchored in 85' of water in a area that I have on my GPS that I usually catch fish at. Caught 5 keeper lakers that returned to the depths of the Valley for another day, the largest being just about 26"! I also had 3 run offs, one that took line for a while when I was fighting a fish at the front of the boat. After I released the fish I was fighting, I attempted to set the hook on the running fish and missed. I figured by the time I got to him, he would have been gut hooked and half digested the shiner, but I guess that fish was just fooling around!! Found and used #4 red circle hooks, and caught 3 in the corner of the mouth, and missed the fish who took a run. The other fish were caught on red #4 octopus hooks, and were gut hooked. The two other run offs were on the octopus hooks, 1 black/1 red.

Comments: Pretty slow morning at the valley. Took Ken Esser and Rich Lawsten up to help stock the Kamloops in my boat. Very cold. Pulled wire and Rich got one 19 inch laker near north shore. Stocked and then went to 50 foot hump to troll chrome dodgers with small shiners. Caught one more 19 incher and gave up (to cold) and went home. First time out with boat this year, and of course have things to fix. But not to bad, no disasters.

Comments: Very foggy and didn't see one other boat with navigation lights on!! Anyway, took advantage of no wind and hung some shiners right off the bottom. Plenty of hits, with only two landed. Tried to find the 50ft hump to no avail. Just learning the lake and techniques; any help (hints) is appreciated!!
Hoping that the reservoir gets a nice stocking of herring again to rebuild up the Brown trout population. Not too long ago a 20+ pounder was taken from those waters, now all you see are 12" stockies. Lakers are good, but this premier trout fishery needs something other than lakers and tiny rainbows and brown trout.
