THE AREA

Round Valley's wilderness campsites are spread over three and one-half miles along the south and northeast shores of the reservoir. Campsites are open April - October 31. The campsites are accessible by hiking or boating only (there are no boat rentals at Round Valley). The closest site is approximately a three mile hike from the campers' parking area. Be prepared with proper clothing and have proper gear for backpacking. The trail is rocky and steep in places and is marked with yellow and green markers in the shapes of horseshoes and footprints. There is no drinking water along the trail to the campgrounds. For safety and orientation, boaters should follow the shore to the sites. Flashing white warning lights, located on the north and south towers of the dams and on the east shore near the campgrounds, indicate that the reservoir is CLOSED to ALL boating due to unsafe wind conditions. Under these conditions, boaters must be prepared to hike to and/or from their campsite. Each site is a clearing in the woods containing a stone fire ring and is approximately 20' X 20' in size but they really vary quite a bit.  Park staff would be happy to assist visitors in finding a campsite that suites their needs.

Tables or benches are not provided on the sites. There are drinking water wells at the campgrounds as indicated on the map; there is no other running water. Outhouses are provided and are marked by symbols an the map. A public telephone is located at the 5 mile hiking point (see map). In case of emergency, call the park office at 236-6355, or call 911 when the office is closed.
